15 March 2017

KOTA KINABALU: Kupikupifm 96.3 FM, the community focused radio station in Sabah will be celebrating its 1st year anniversary on 18th March 2017 with a free concert, featuring Indonesian band, REPVBLIK. It starts from 7pm-11 pm at the KDCA. To make it more a family-oriented event, we even have Singah Kupikupifm which starts at 12 noon so that our fans can enjoy a fun filled carnival-like atmosphere prior to the concert.

This year is truly a year of celebration for us. The greatest gift to us is the loyal fans who tune into our radio station on a daily basis. Since our inception in 2015, we have now:

  1. FaceBook following of nearly 70,000 which we attained within a short 15 months
  2. Listenership which covers from Kuala Penyu to Kota Belud including Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar, Beaufort and other cities.
  3. Conducted two major Community projects with a value of over RM100,000 for the people of Sabah.
  4. A first free concert in 2016 to launch our station, featuring over 20 local artists. The media reports that there were about 5,000 people who attended the concert.

“Kupikupifm went on air on 20th Jan 2016 and since then, we have established a large fan base in a short span of time – unprecedented for a new radio station. We intend to target at least 350,000 listeners soon”, say Mr Lester Miol, Programme Manager of Kupikupifm.

“Our team is highly motivated because we know everything we do is for our people. True to our tagline, we live for our songs and we very work hard because we know our effort will lay the foundation for Sabah songs to be heard outside of our community – possibly even outside the country. That is why we have invited overseas artists in our concert this year”, says Kupikupifm’s Programme Manager.

The station, run by a team of young, enthusiastic Sabahans, is the only radio station in Malaysia that plays 80% Sabahan songs, giving the local singers and entertainers a platform to showcase and promote their talents.  “The segment Kopistika Bangun Bogia Kinabalu which comes on every Thursday at 8:00 AM, is just one of the many ways we stay true to our objective of highlighting our local entertainers in the industry”, Lester went on to say.

As part of thanking its loyal Kupikupifm listeners and fans for their support, the radio station will be holding a concert at KDCA Hall, Penampang on 18 March with an exciting line up of artists. The headline act for Konsert Kupikupifm 2017 is REPVBLIK from Indonesia, who will be performing here in Sabah for the first time.  The rest of the other line up include Adex, Esther Applunius, Sharin Amud, Evaritus Gungkit, Felix Agus, Nubornmusic, Velvet, Francis Landong, Den Bisa, Mary Intiang, Loytive, Jestie Alexius, Bamboowoods from SMK Tamparuli.  The concert is from 7 – 11 PM and entrance is FREE, based on first come first serve basis.

Another new feature at this year’s celebration is Singah Kupi Kupi, which starts from 12:00 PM onwards for the whole family.  There’ll be many food stalls, entertainment by a local busker group from 1 – 4PM, Adin the Clown distributing free balloons to the children sponsored by Adin Entertainment and not forgetting activities by the Kupikupifm Cruiser team as well.
All attendees will also stand to win lucky draw prizes that include 40” Panasonic LED HD TV and Cash Vouchers sponsored by COURTS Malaysia and return air tickets sponsored by Air Asia.  Besides that, as per last year, a survey will be carried out on its listeners at the side line to better understand their preferences and needs – information that would further help fine tune the radio station’s strategy and approach.  The results of the survey will be shared with all its current and potential advertisers.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors for the concert – KTI Group/Landmark Property for being our presenting sponsor; Coca-Cola, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Sidma College, Celcom and Mega Boogie Sound and Lighting Revolution and of course not forgetting all our loyal listeners and fans too.  Without your support the concert would not have been possible. We look forward to seeing everyone join us in our 1st year anniversary celebration on 18th March @ KDCA Hall,” Lester concluded.
